Of First Impressions, Brand Logos and Names

Jul 23, 2008

Almost everything is about first impressions. And sometimes, first impressions, whether they are right or not, tend to stay in the minds of people. That’s why it’s important to look your best everyday and everywhere you go. You just can’t take the risk of being judged as somebody you are not.

Book covers, brand names, public exposure and the likes are similar to how we conceive other people. It is by our first introduction to products we tend to judge them.

So it has also been a concern by huge companies on how they would like to be perceived by the public. They all had to spend time and money trying to figure out the best look, logo, and including the brand name. Imagine that! Everything has to be perfect for them to earn a lot.

And I can relate. Well, not me. My mom and sister can relate. A few years back, they decided to do a cake delivery business. Everything was already decided, from the recipes to the prices. Everything, except for the logo and the brand name. I remember they spent too much time deciding what to call the business.

And since I had no interest to scribble down and draw on paper a lot of possible names and logos, I decided to search online about branding. Not bad, there are really some sites that are focused on branding. Lucky us. Old companies never had the chance to try this service. Well, because there was no internet before. So they couldn’t find people to help them with branding their companies on an easier way.

So to all of you who have your own business, take note that branding has made companies like Apple successful. So never take branding lightly.

Things I'm Grateful For This Week

Jul 22, 2008

I was checking my dashboard on Entrecard when I saw the Things I'm Grateful For blog. I checked it out and I learned a lesson that we should all know. It's about being grateful everyday and to appreciate every single blessings that come our way.

Since I'm overwhelmed this week, I decided to make my own post about the Things I'm Grateful For This Week. You should try it too.
  1. Getting a 92% average on the last Math long exam. I had two mistakes which were awfully easy. But still, it's a blessing not to fail an exam, especially a Math exam.
  2. Accepted to dance for this year's Cook Out. Two stressful weeks will follow before the anticipated day and I'm excited and at the same time nervous.
  3. Have very supportive and funny friends. I go to school and they are all I need to put a smile on my face.
  4. Saw Bordertown on Cinemax. It's a movie starring Jennifer Lopez and Antonio Banderas. Mexico setting, it was about a journalist trying to write a big story about the numerous killings of raped women. Everything was more or less familiar. The injustice, stupid authorities, poverty and corrupt government. It pretty much describes the Philippines. Sad thing, but true. Now why do I appreciate the fact that I have seen the film? Simply because I loved Jennifer Lopez's and Antonio Banderas' roles. They were very brave to try to find out about the truth. And that's a hard thing to do when you know you could be killed by doing it.
  5. A cup of Lipton Milk Tea just really brightens up my day.
  6. We watched the film Troy during our Hum1 class. It's a blessing, to see Brad Pitt's arse and not having an endless discussion about beauty, taste and aesthetics. And guess what, we aren't done yet. That means we still have to watch the film next meeting. :)
  7. My friend Ana Maria for finding this video. A great idea for our costume.
  8. Waking up to the song of All Or Nothing by O-Town.
  9. No classes on Wednesdays.
  10. Hardworking Entrecard droppers. I love you all!
  11. Having an artistic brother. See his works here.
  12. Comfortable sleep. Have been dancing for weeks now. Only cure for aching muscles is a very good sleep.
  13. My kind sister. She gave me money for me to claim my EON card and put some money on my account.
  14. Loving blogger friends who tagged me.
  15. For being able to visit the blog that inspired this post.

We Passed.

UP COOK OUT 2007. I was a VC.

We dared. We danced. And then we passed. It was not unbelievable, but it was still unbelievable. Our guild has been given the chance to perform this coming August, an annual event we call as Cook Out. It's one of the biggest, or is the one and only biggest event every school year. I once hoped to be given a chance to stand up on the stage and perform. And I never expected that it would come true.

Once again, I'm going to be inactive for a couple of weeks. We have examinations the next week and the week after the next. We also have some practices until the second week of August.

My apologies, I promise to get back at all of my visitors once everything lies low. Bare with me, for I am living a dream come true. :)
